FDIP Proposals for 2008 FDIP Grants Program

FDIP A and FDIP B awards are funded for a one year period beginning as soon as the funds are transferred to the department account. A letter of award is sent to the Principal Investigator, the College Dean, and the College Business Administrator. This notification provides the Business Administrator with all the information needed regarding the type of cost center to be created. A copy of the proposal and budget are attached to the notification email.

Funding for the awards comes from the office of Academic Affairs. It is important that spending for a project meets the project needs as justified in the budget submitted with the proposal.

Spending should not exceed the proposed amount or differ from the purposes budgeted in the accepted proposal. If budget modifications are needed during the award period, please sumit a request defining the nature of the change to the ETUO Award Coordinator (thosings@uh.edu) prior to the change.

At the end of the one year award period, a detailed budget summary (UGI 1074) will be requested from the Business Administrator. Any funds which have not been spent will be returned to ETUO.

FDIP A grants are awarded in the amounts up to $4000 and FDIP B grants are awarded in amounts up to $25,000.

FDIP A awards are usually made to a single faculty member, while FDIP B awards are generally made to a group of faculty collaborating on a project. If the group of faculty span several different colleges or departments, it is up to the Principal investigator and the DBA of the Principal investigator’s college to make the appropriate transfers. ETUO will transfer the award amount to the college/department of the Principal investigator.

Appropriate expenditures for FDIP A and B awards usually include: any expenses identified as needed for project development, salaries for support staff (including graduate assistants); instructional equipment; hardware or software. Reasonable identification of salary stipends for Investigators is also acceptable. No more than $1500 per individual faculty stipend should be requested for FDIP A awards and no more than $3000 per individual faculty stipend should be requested for FDIP B awards. Any stipend or salary award will include fringe deductions.
